Using Norelco electric shavers for at least 16 years, had never bought too expensive ones. I would say that 8240 XL is a perfect shaver for this price.

I’d just about given up on electric razoring after trying to use several different brands including Braun, Panasonic and some others. Then I read a review on here about Norelco’s advanced system. I’d owned a Norelco years ago and was somewhat skeptical. Went to my local Walmart and found this one. When I took it out of the wrapper it had a charge so I figured what the heck. Within a minute I was able to cut long neck hair down to smooth skin before I knew it. Highly recommended. Best durned electric shaver I ever owned. First few shaves were sore because of close cut but after that everything is good. Don’t waste your money on any other kind.

I have used Norelcos for years. They all have given me good shaves. The surprise is that there is no low battery warning light. You are in the middle of a shave and it just stops. Annoying.

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my husband. I dropped his old one a few months ago, and while it still works as good as it always has, the pop-up clipper was damaged. I decided to buy this particular model based on previous customer reviews. It received higher stars than some of the higher-priced fancier models, and my husband has always preferred the Norelco brand. He says it’s the most reliable brand he’s used. While I can’t comment on the product itself, I’m sure it will be just as dependable and easy to use and clean as his old one.

I only gave this product four stars because I’ve only used it for one week, but so far I’m really enjoying it! Sure, after 25 years of shaving with blades I’m bound to have some irritation. All my research indicated that it would take my skin and beard 3-4 weeks to adjust, but so far my irritation is confined to the area above my upper lip and below my lower lip. I bought this item at Amazon.com for an amazing $69.99…whereas the local Walmart sold it for $93.00.
At first the shave wasn’t as close as I’d expected, but the more you use the razor the closer the shave gets. I’m a military officer and after just one week it gives me a shave close enough for any inspection. It’s quiet, smooth, easy-to-use, and easy-to-clean. Save yourself the extra $30 for the cleaning & charging stand that comes with the 8260 Speed XL…all you need to do is rinse under hot tap water daily and give it a more thorough cleaning each month. Also get yourself some cleaner/lubricant for electric razors (Remington Shaver Saver).
I recommend that those that are new to electric shaving follow all the recommended steps below until your skin fully transitions to electric shavers:
- Shave after you shower with hot water and wash your face thoroughly. Use a good face scrub every other day to exfoliate dead skin and prevent ingrown hairs (recommend Neutrogena Razor Defense, Every Man Jack, or Nivea).
- Use a pre-electric shave lotion like William’s Lectric Shave to dry out the hairs and help them stick out straight (it really does help though it smells strong!).
- Spray your razor heads with Remington Shaver Saver before each use to lubricate the blades and help reduce friction (saves your face and razor at the same time).
- As soon as you’re done shaving, rinse your face well with COLD water and apply a good, soothing after shave balm/lotion/gel. Go for one of the new brands with low alcohol content and high contents of glycerin, aloe, etc. Again, recommended brands are Neutrogena Razor Defense, Every Man Jack Cooling Gel, or Nivea.
Don’t give in and quit before your 3-4 week transition period is over…stick with it and you will soon enjoy the convenience and cost savings of electric shaving. I will continue this review after another month or so. Good luck!
